Youth Benefit Auction to Take Place at Carlisle Sports and Outdoor Nationals

For nearly 40 years, Carlisle Events has worked with charities directly or partnered with organizations who can better help others in need. In 2013, the tradition continues as Carlisle Events will host the PA Outdoor Writers Association for a charity auction as part of the brand new Carlisle Sports and Outdoor Nationals, Sept. 6-8 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds.

This particular auction will not be the first such charity offering at Carlisle, as multiple auctions and fund raising opportunities have taken place onsite previously. The offering will, however; allow for the PA Outdoor Writers Association to position themselves in front of a hungry sports and outdoor enthusiast base. The auction takes place on Sunday, the final day of event weekend and will be held near the grandstand and in front of the Red 102.3 stage. The multiple auction items, which are increasing daily, will be on display under the grandstand all weekend and then on stage just before the auction itself. By presenting the auction, the PA Outdoor Writers Association will use all proceeds for youth educational programs and youth introductions into the outdoors. In the meanwhile, as the auction takes shape, donations are being sought for inclusion. Anyone interested in making a donation should contact the PA Outdoor Writers Association directly at 717-766-4834 as the auction is run entirely from donations made by individuals and businesses.

“Through previous auctions, POWA has raised nearly $400,000 and every penny has gone to programs and organizations that introduce young people to the outdoors all across the state,” said Kermit Henning of POWA.  “Thousands of young sportsmen have benefited from monies raised, through youth field days, conservation camps, fishing derbies, shooting events, school nature activities, Boy Scouts, Audubon programs and many more. In addition, these funds have funded scholarships at Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for journalism majors with an interest in communicating the outdoors.”  Henning concluded by adding, “All items sold at the auction are donations from show exhibitors, POWA and outdoor industry members and others interested in youth in the outdoors. Firearms, wildlife art, hunting and fishing gear, clothing, game calls, archery equipment, books, videos and much more will be sold with no reserve.” In addition to the auction, the weekend features demonstrations, competitions, seminars and representatives from some of the top names in the hobby.  A complete list of all weekend activities is available online via www.CarlisleSportsOutdoor.com. Finally, anyone interested in being a sponsor, vendor or guest can call 717-243-7855 for more information.
